There is nothing quite like a delicious fruit smoothy after a day of hard work. It’s my favorite treat and the best part is that they can be really good for you. The secret to making healthy yet delicious smoothies is two fold:

1. Make sure you are using the highest quality organic ingredients, all natural doesn’t cut it.

2. Use the best recipes you can find for a more diverse and delicious taste. This is what I’ll be talking about in this post.

Mango Smoothie

If you have never tried a mango smoothie, then you have never lived! A mango smoothie is always a delight, but I’m going to go out there and say that mine is the best. The taste is magical and truly indescribable, you have to try it in order to understand.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups mango sliced
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup orange sherbet (can be substituted with organic orange juice)

The hardest part of this recipe is learning to slice a mango, which is why I’ve added this video. It will give you a good idea on how to do it, but it still might take some practice to perfect it.

Once you have successfully sliced 2 mangos you can put them into the blender (or smoothie maker if you are lucky enough to have one) along with the other ingredients. Now blend until smooth and enjoy! How long you blend is completely up to you, if you prefer it be a bit chunky blend for less time, if you like it to be very smooth then blend for a while longer.

Blueberry Smoothie

One of these smoothies a day will keep you extraordinarily healthy. Blueberries are well known for their cancer fighting attributes so you can experience these benefits with out having to stomach the bland taste of plain blueberries. By far this is the healthiest smoothie you can make for yourself, and don’t let the color fool you, it is delicious too.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • 6 ice cubes
  • 1 medium sized banana
  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • 1 cup of blueberries

Put in blender until smooth, if you aren’t getting the right consistency try adding in cold water.

 

Cilantro Smoothie

Here is one to change things up. When you start getting bored of drinking the two smoothies above you should make this one to get change from the norm. A lot of these ingredients aren’t exactly kitchen staples so you might have to go out of your way to find them, but trust me, it is worth it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 4 dates
  • 1 cup papaya
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 8 large strawberries
  • 1 cup cilantro

Throw it in the blender and voila! You have a delicious new smoothie!

Acne Detox Diet That Really Works

Acne is one of those things that almost everyone has the misfortune of getting. It causes widespread embarrassment and desperate searches for a quick cure, with a few failed attempts teens and adults alike, tend to dismiss acne as “inevitable” and give up the fight. The good new is that you won’t have to join the ranks of people who have failed to beat acne. You can be one of the view who beats it! Sounds exciting? There are to parts to a ance detox diet, the first part is the external cleanse i.e., the things you do apply at skin level to fight the acne. The second part is the internal part, this is the component that clears up acne from the inside. Both of these components to the diet are extremely important because both internal and external factors can cause acne, so by doing one or the other you can still get acne.

Now you might be thinking that this diet is going to be all about giving up chocolate, but despite what you might think, consumption of chocolate has no link to acne. In fact, chocolate in moderation is a very healthy treat, so if you’re going to give up chocolate don’t do it for acne related reasons.

The real culprits for acne are foods high in sodium, especially foods that are very salty. So keep salted foods to a minimum or cut it out altogether. Dairy is another food to blame for acne outbreaks because of a certain hormone it contains, however I was hesitant to mention this one because I for one don’t think you should be limiting dairy consumption. Dairy is very healthy and an important part in any diet (although vegans will disagree). I don’t think that it is worth it to sacrifice health for physical appearance but the choice is up to you.

For the most part any foods that are known to be good for you (dairy being the exception) will be very good for reducing acne. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. are all excellent for decreasing acne breakouts. Although you’re probably tired of hearing it, drinking lots of water is a necessity when on an acne detox diet.

What Really Are Toxins?

Toxins, they’re in food, the air, the microwave and even on your kitchen countertop. It seems like there are very few places where these nightmarish, cancer inducing particles can’t be found and the media just loves to talk about them. Yes, artificial substances, even if proven to kill you are not toxins. This begs the question, “So what are toxins?”.

 

Toxins are distributed through many mediums. Here are the ones you need to be watchful of:

 

Air

Second hand tobacco smoke, industrial air pollution (cities like San Francisco are more than aware of this one) and allergens like pollen.

 

Radiation

Cell phones, microwaves, wifi, numerous medical devices, the sun, tanning beds and granite.


Food and drink

Herbicides and pesticides, genetically modified foods and fluoride.

 

Medicinal

Vaccines (did you know that many vaccines contain the same harmful bacteria that the vaccine is supposed to prevent?), chemotherapy, MRIs, radiation treatments, CAT scans and antibiotics.

 

This list of toxins is very scary. Hopefully, I’ve helped you become more aware of the overwhelming amount of toxins there are in almost everything. Of course you can’t avoid all of thee toxins, there are just to many of them, but what you can do is detox in order to prevent them from building up. This is why I stress how important detoxing is in every one of my articles. If you detox frequently than you should not be scared by this list but instead be glad to know that you are taking an active role in preventing these toxins from harming you.

You’ll never really appreciate your hot water heater until you’ve taken a cold water shower but believe me, you’ll live. If you’re having trouble taking a cold water shower I recommend you start the shower at the temperature you usually use, but slowly start to turn the knob until the water is cold. Remember the water may be unpleasant but it shouldn’t be painful. I’ve nearly cut my shower time in half when I started cold showers, simply because it wasn’t enjoyable anymore. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Less enjoyable and unpleasant, why on earth would I want to do this?” however the benefits are overwhelming. First of all, cold showers increase the number of white blood cells in the body, so you’ll be less prone to getting sick. Secondly, cold showers are believed to give you a morning boost and transform you from your morning grouchiness to energized and ready to take on the world. Scrape your tongue

Admittedly this one is quite weird, but effective nonetheless. I recommend that you scrape your tongue in the morning after you eat, but before you brush your teeth. No fancy tools are required, a spoon will suffice. The idea is to scrape off the bacteria that has built up on your tongue over night and to encourage an excretion.

I have to confess that I’ve only tried this twice. Mainly because I found it inconvenient and was unable to build it into my daily routine. Cons

Although I only found a few cons they are still worth mentioning:

  • The report was lengthy in order to fit in all of the information. But this mass of information takes a while to get through and might be bit intimidating. It is hard not to feel a bit overwhelmed.
  • In this report, all of the food Jaison recommends is organic. While this might not seem bad at all, you have to realize that organic food takes longer and more effort to grow resulting in companies increasing prices. With that said, your grocery bill will take a chunk out of your budget, however what I came to find out is that organic foods stopped my cravings for junk food and when I stopped buying it I wound up having MORE money in the budget. So if you can manage to get through the first month or so you’ll be fine.

What Do Detox Foods Do Anyway?

We have all heard of detoxing, how it improves color, increases energy, reduces fat and more. It’s hard to ignore detoxing when its on tv every five seconds. Yet you would be surprised that despite being heavily advertised, many people have no idea how detoxing is. I am astounded at the number of people who ask bizarre questions about detoxing. Contrary to belief, the human body does have a way of detoxing on its own. Unfortunately, this process is initiated by the liver and over time your liver deteriorates and is no longer able to effectively cleanse the body. That is where detox foods come in.

1. Broccoli
Broccoli is one of the best food choices in the cruciferous family. While many other great detox foods can be found in this family, this one is the best because it is low in calories, nutrient rich and contains two crucial phytochemicals.

2. Blueberries
Blueberries have the highest antioxidant content out of all other fruits. This alone is nothing to sneeze at. Blueberries also are known for their positive influence on aging mainly due to the antioxidant anthocyanin, which kills free radicals.

3. Whole Grains
Detoxing causes some toxins to exit the body through bowel movements, and whole grains are packed with fiber that improves bowel function. Without good bowel function, toxins will remain in the digestive system for long periods and might be reabsorbed and processed again… this is not good! We want toxins out of our body as quickly as possible and that is why fiber is so important.

Yogurt has all of the great benefits of dairy including sufficient protein and calcium but yogurt also has probiotics. Probiotics are a form of healthy bacteria similar to the bacteria that grows naturally in your body. 9. Flax seed Oil

Last not least is the acai berry. This is arguably the healthiest food known to man! Just like blueberries, acai berries are packed with antioxidants that kill free radicals in the body. Very few studies have been done on this strange new berry besides for what I’ve mentioned above. In a few years many new benefits will likely surface backed by scientific studies but for now all that is certain is their high antioxidant capacity. A word of caution: as I’ve mentioned the acai berry has yet to be studied closely, this has led to large scale scams involving the acai berry. Unfortunately I have never tried acai berries so I can’t make any recommendations about trust worthy sites. I suggest you do your due diligence before ordering online.
